Frequently Asked Questions
The Basics
What is a TribuTag?
A TribuTag is a durable, weather-resistant memorial marker equipped with scannable technology. When someone scans the tag with a smartphone, it opens a digital biography dedicated to your loved one — allowing visitors to view photos, videos, and stories that a traditional headstone cannot hold.
How does the "Scan-to-Set" setup work?
Setting up is simple and requires no technical skill. When your tag arrives, it is "blank." Simply scan it with your phone’s camera, and you will be prompted to create an account and setup your TribuTags linking the tag to the web address of your loved one's online obituary or memorial page. Once saved, the tag is linked to that profile and web address.
Do visitors need a special app to scan the tag?
No. TribuTags are designed for instant access. Any modern smartphone (iPhone or Android) can scan the tag using the built-in camera app.
Features and Uses
Will the TribuTag survive the elements?
Yes. TribuTags are crafted from industrial-grade Anodized Aluminum and are tested against extreme heat, freezing temperatures, and heavy rain. They are designed to remain legible and beautiful for decades.
How do I install the Memorial tag?
Each Memorial tag comes with a pre-applied, high-performance outdoor adhesive. Simply clean the surface of the headstone or monument, peel the backing, and press firmly. It is designed to bond permanently to stone, metal, and glass.
Can I use this on an urn or memorial bench?
Absolutely. While commonly used on headstones, TribuTags can be placed on urns, benches, or even framed indoor tributes.
What is the Annual Reminder Service?
We believe in honoring legacies year-round. Our service can send you a thoughtful notification on significant dates—such as birthdays or anniversaries—to remind you of your loved one’s impact and encourage a moment of reflection.
Orders & Support
Are there any monthly subscription fees?
No. Your purchase includes the physical tag and a free account for managing your tags. A successfully activated tag would be connected to your loved one's online memorial page. There are no recurring costs to keep your loved one’s story online.
What if the cemetery has strict rules?
Most cemeteries welcome small, non-invasive additions that do not damage the monument. However, because rules vary by location, we recommend a quick check with your cemetery sexton or management office before installation.
What if my tag gets damaged?
Our tags are built to last, but if a tag is ever vandalized or damaged, contact our support team. We can help provide a replacement physical tag to your existing digital memorial so that your loved one's memorial can remain connected. The only thing we ask you pay for is the shipping cost to send you the replacement tag.
How do I copy the link to an online obituary from my phone?
Linking an existing obituary or memorial page to a TribuTag is a simple way to preserve a legacy. While copying and pasting on a smartphone can sometimes feel tricky, here is a simple guide for both iPhone (iOS) and Android devices.
For iPhone (iOS) Users
- Open the Obituary: Use the Safari or Chrome app to find the online obituary you wish to link.
- Tap the Address Bar: Look at the very top (or bottom) of your screen where the website address (the URL) is written. Tap it once. The address should now be highlighted in blue.
- Copy the Link: Tap the highlighted address a second time. A small menu will appear. Tap Copy.
- Paste into TribuTag: Open your TribuTag portal, tap and hold your finger in the "Obituary Link" field, and select Paste.
For Android Users
- Open the Obituary: Open your browser (usually Google Chrome) and navigate to the obituary page.
- Tap the Address Bar: Tap the web address at the top of the screen once.
- Use the Copy Icon: In most Android browsers, a set of icons will appear below the address. Look for the "Double Square" icon (one square overlapping another). This is the "Copy" button. Tap it.
- Alternatively: If you don't see the icon, long-press (hold your finger down) on the address until the word Copy appears.
- Paste into TribuTag: Head back to the TribuTag setup screen, long-press in the text box, and select Paste.
Tip: If the web address is very long, don't worry about selecting the whole thing manually. Tapping it once usually selects the entire link automatically for you!
